What the result means

A planning aid, not a boarding guarantee.

01 / CURRENT SOURCE

Start with live versus estimated

A live result starts with a recent airport-controlled reading. If the source is unavailable, the tool uses a labeled historical estimate and returns an earlier planning range instead of pretending it knows the current line.

02 / TRIP BUFFER

Add the parts TSA cannot see

Drive time, parking, bag drop, terminal transit, the walk to your gate, and boarding cutoffs can outweigh the checkpoint itself. Adjust the inputs above and keep extra margin for unfamiliar airports, families, mobility needs, or rental-car returns.

03 / RECHECK

Confirm before you leave

Security conditions can move quickly. Open the airport page again before departure, confirm the checkpoint serves your terminal, and treat a rising trend or fallback source as a reason to leave earlier.

Known limits

What this calculator cannot know.

The recommendation does not know your traffic route, parking availability, airline bag-drop cutoff, gate change, passport or document checks, accessibility needs, or unexpected secondary screening. It also cannot guarantee that a checkpoint published by an airport is open when no live row is available.

Use the methodology to understand source labels, browse airport-specific pages for terminal routing, and read the arrival-time guide for broader planning rules.
